The weather in Baguio has been known to be pleasant all year round and can even get chilly at times. The temperatures in the city are at least 8 degrees cooler than that of Manila, which is the capital of the Philippines. This is one of the reasons why Baguio is so popular among the local and foreign tourists. Mostly due to the altitude and the forest covered with trees, the City of Pines has been marked as the Summer Capital of the Philippines where tourists would get away from the occasional oppressive heat of the Philippine lowlands.

Baguio weather changes depending on the time of the year. Baguio’s climate usually steadies at 20 degrees, gets as low as 15 degrees and seldom exceeds 26 degrees as its warmest temperature. Here is what one can reasonably expect of the weather of the city based on the country’s seasons and trends:

January is the perfect weather month when the city is at its coolest. Along with clear blue skies, the temperatures during this month have gone down to as low as 7 degrees Celsius during recent years. February is just the same as January, being only a little less chilly. Founders of the Flower Festival in Baguio selected this month in particular for its weather which extends all the way up to early March.

The months of April and May have relatively warmer temperatures. Residents strip off their sweaters and coats as the summer begins. This is also the time that the city lives up to its title as the “Summer Capital of the Philippines” as visitors flock the city for cooler temperatures. Expect light rain showers in the afternoon, though.

It starts to get cooler yet again by June during the start of the country’s school year. Scattered rain showers during the afternoons are usually experienced at the same rate as the summer months.

By July, August and September, the wet season has already arrived. With the number of tropical monsoons that hit the country, Baguio experiences a lot of rainfall and a number of typhoons as well. The city actually gets a huge amount of rainfall that is measured to be twice as much as that received by Metro Manila. Local residents heed the need for fireplaces to escape the damp and cold of the city at this time.

Rains start clearing up by October and November. Strawberries are harvested and the wild sunflowers fill the mountain sides to signal the end of the rainy season. However, during recent years, Baguio has experienced sunny Julys and rainy Octobers mostly because of climate change.

Finally, December ends the year as another perfect weather month for Baguio visitors. The city sees thousands of visitors during the Christmas break mostly by December 23 to January 2.

Knowing the weather in Baguio can be extremely useful when it comes to planning your trip way ahead of time. May it be escaping the heat of the lowlands or visiting the tourist attractions of Baguio, Baguio weather is truly a remarkable feature of the city on its own.
