Baguio City has been labeled as the Summer Capital of the Philippines because locals flock to the highlands as the summer heat begins. Of course, tourists not only visit Baguio for its climate but for its attractions as well. The most common concern among tourists visiting any city would most likely be the means of transportation available. Baguio is a rather small city that totals to only 49 square kilometers. Major attractions are situated close to each other, which makes getting from one place to another not too difficult. Luckily, here are four ways to getting around Baguio.
- Take a cab – Taxis are plenty around Baguio. The current flag down rate is at 35 pesos for the first 500 meters with an additional 1.50 pesos per 100 meters thereafter. Most Baguio cabs are colored white with proper identification markings on them. They are also available during night time. They can even be hired for the day as your private mode of transport around the city and can even serve as your personal tour guides as well. Know that taxis are much less expensive than those in Manila because they are not air-conditioned. Most of the major locations and destinations around Baguio are significantly near each other so expect to shell out cheap amounts while touring around the city on land.
- Ride a jeepney - Jeepneys usually cover the major routes around Baguio City but are not really advisable for a pleasurable trip as they may become slow and cumbersome. Time should be on your side when touring around the city, which is why jeepneys are not ideal as they may take too much of your time. Jeepney drivers usually wait for all the seats to be filled and the wait can be a hassle. However, if touring around the city in a group of ten, jeepneys can be hired for personal use.
- Take your own car – Traveling with children or the elderly may be difficult when using public transport. Taking your own car is advisable, especially when getting to the attractions that are significantly far from the city proper. Tourist attractions usually have ample parking available but try to avoid visiting the market and Session Road as you might waste valuable time by just looking for a parking spot. Car rental companies are available for trips around the city. Ask your hotel concierge or inn manager if it may be possible for them to arrange one for you.
- On foot – This is the ultimate mode of exploration, but not completely of course. Park your car somewhere or get dropped off at a place and explore your way by foot. You might find yourself strolling alongside locals around parks and gardens or hustle your way through the busy street of the Session Road. Walk on at a leisurely pace and mingle as the locals do as you explore the City of Pines.
Getting around Baguio has been made much easier because of these means of transportation mentioned. Make your visit to Baguio hassle-free and get to focus on the finer things that Baguio has to offer.
